After a few busy weeks, I gave myself the past few days to simply be. I spent time doing some of my favorite things like painting, a new jigsaw puzzle, knitting, gardening, reading, taking photos, and simply sitting on the porch with a cup of tea watching the birds fill the woods with song at dawn and the deer greeting one another at dusk. I struggle sometimes with allowing myself unearned joy and feeling like I always need to be productive or feeling guilty when I’m not. But this is my reminder, and your reminder if you need it, that’s it’s ok to simply be. It’s ok to do something you love just because you love it and for no other purpose. It’s ok to just be still and watch the waves roll ashore.

I strive for joy not perfection.
This affirmation appeared in my daily planner a few weeks ago and I really connected with it. I never really considered myself a perfectionist until a few years ago. I realized I would be held back from pursuing something or in this case of posting something because I didn't think I/it was "good enough" - whatever that means.
At times, worrying about the end result being perfect keeps me from creating. I'm trying to keep this affirmation in mind going forward. To focus on the joy of creation rather than the end result. So, even though there are many things I'd like to change about this photo, I decided to post it - to stand in joy rather than in perfection.
Do you struggle with this as well? Have any tips? Or, do you a have a different affirmation that speaks to you?

My deep winter knitting project is complete! After untold hours, it’s finally finished - a hand knit dress made with undyed wool just in time for cool spring mornings sitting on the porch with a cup of tea and listening to the birdsong awakening the forest.
I’ve been a bit quiet on here the past few weeks, but with spring finally making herself known here, I feel my creative fire igniting again and it’s been so nice to head back out with my camera spending time creating in nature. Do you also find that your creativity comes in waves?

Taking these photos made me feel like Outlander's Claire checking on her medicinal herbs in Castle Leoch before heading to the clan gathering.
Over the past few years I've started growing my own herbs and using them in cooking, cleaning, and home health remedies. I find it so magical to think of all the powerful abilities that are hidden in these little leaves.

I think winter is making up for the mild season we

I think winter is making up for the mild season we've had, because as I write this even more snow is falling - that makes 4 big snowfalls in the last 2 weeks!
Although spring now seems a long way off, inside my little cottage tiny green sprouts have poked their way through brown soil in search of light and warmth. This is the first year that I'm attempting to grow seedlings indoors to transplant in my garden once the threat of frost has past. By doing so, I'm hoping to give my little plants more time to grow and flourish.
I have all sorts of yummy vegetables planted and am hoping to plant some herbs today as I watch the snow fall outside.
I've only had my little vegetable patch and herb garden for about two years and it seems like there's always so much more to learn.
