We are delighted that you have found us here at the edge of the world. Welcome to our little homestead on a rocky island off the coast of Maine. It is here, deep in the forest surrounded by playful brooks and the not too distant sound of the sea that we create our handcrafts.
As I write this, the Spring sun is rising, summoning off the morning fog that hangs low in the trees during the early hours of the day. It is this quintessential fog that gives Misty Isle Cottage its name. The fog brings with is a sense of magic and mystery that calls upon you to explore the hidden places in these woods.

Spring is bringing with it exciting ideas for settling into our little corner of the world here. Having moved here just before the winter solstice, we are eagerly anticipating all of the outdoor activities that will help bring our homestead to life. We hope to build a chicken coop this season and to start keeping bees as well. I’m itching to get a kitchen garden going, but I know that I need to hold off a bit longer as the temperature is still hovering around freezing at night. All of these undertakings will be completely new to us, so there will be a lot of learning along the way.

Spring is also brining the slumbering forest back to life. In the early morning hours, as I sit in my rocking chair on the porch wrapped in blankets with a hot cup of tea in hand, I watch as the deer find their footing on their well-worn trails through the trees, the foxes are emerging from their dens, and porcupine can be heard slowly lumbering through the foliage. It is amazing how delightfully noisy it is after a calm, silent winter.

We would love to have you follow along on our journey of becoming rooted here on this wild island, living in tune with the seasons and the natural rhythms of the earth. I know there will be plenty of lessons to learn from this beautiful place and the plants and wildlife that inhabit it. If you’d like to follow along, you can follow us on Instagram @mistyislecottage and sign-up for our monthly newsletter below where we will be sharing stories from our journey as well as updates from our handcraft shop.
